Ancient Healing Art

A full-body oil ritual rooted in the ancient healing traditions of Kashmir. Fluid, unhurried and deeply transformative.
Book a CourseThe Art of Kashmiri Massage
Kashmiri Massage is one of the oldest and most revered healing traditions in the world, originating in the Kashmir Valley of northern India where it has been practised for thousands of years. Unlike many massage modalities that focus on isolated areas of tension, Kashmiri Massage treats the entire being, working on the body, the breath and the subtle energy that flows through both.
The technique is defined by its long, continuous, unbroken strokes that travel the full length of the body. Warm, aromatic oils are applied generously and worked into the skin with a rhythm that is almost hypnotic. The pressure is firm but never forceful, the pace unhurried, the intention always one of deep care and restoration.
At Lotus Rhythm, Kashmiri Massage is offered as a course rather than a single session. This is intentional. The tradition teaches that the deepest healing happens over time, as the body learns to release layers of held tension and the nervous system gradually recalibrates. A course of sessions is a commitment to yourself, and the results reflect that.
What it does for you
Full Body Integration
The long, continuous strokes work the entire body as one connected system, releasing tension patterns that localised work cannot reach and restoring a sense of wholeness.
Deep Nervous System Rest
The slow, rhythmic quality of the technique activates the parasympathetic nervous system, guiding the body into a state of deep rest that goes beyond ordinary relaxation.
Skin and Tissue Nourishment
Warm aromatic oils are absorbed deeply into the skin and underlying tissue, hydrating, softening and nourishing at a level that leaves the body feeling transformed.
Emotional Release
The unhurried, enveloping quality of the treatment creates a safe container for the body to release not just physical tension but emotional holding. Many clients experience a profound sense of lightness.
Cumulative Healing
Each session in a course builds on the last. The body remembers, and with each treatment it releases more deeply, rests more fully and recovers more completely.
Grounding and Presence
The warmth of the oils and the weight of the strokes bring the mind back into the body. Clients leave feeling grounded, present and deeply at home in themselves.
Why a Course?
Kashmiri Massage is offered as a course because the tradition it comes from understands healing as a process, not an event. A single session is deeply pleasurable and beneficial. But it is over the course of multiple sessions that the real transformation happens. The body learns to let go. The nervous system learns to rest. The mind learns to be still. We offer two course options, both designed to give you enough time to experience this depth of change.

What to Expect
- 01
Arrival and Intention
Each session begins with a brief check-in. Your therapist notes how you are feeling, any areas of focus and your intention for the session. This grounds the work before it begins.
- 02
Oil Preparation
Warm aromatic oils are prepared and applied to the body. The warmth begins to soften the tissue immediately, signalling to the nervous system that it is safe to release.
- 03
The Treatment
Long, continuous strokes travel the full length of the body in a flowing, unbroken rhythm. The pressure is firm and enveloping. There is nowhere to be but here.
- 04
Closing Rest
Every session ends with a period of stillness. You rest, the oils continue to work, and your body integrates what has been released. This is not optional. It is part of the treatment.
- 05
Between Sessions
Your therapist may offer simple guidance for the days between sessions, such as hydration, rest or gentle movement, to support the work continuing in your body.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I book a single session first?
We recommend committing to a course from the start, as this is how the tradition is designed to be experienced. However, if you would like to try a single session before committing, please contact us directly to discuss.
What oils are used?
We use warm, aromatic oils selected for their therapeutic and nourishing properties. The specific blend may be adapted to your skin type and the needs identified in your consultation.
How far apart should sessions be?
Ideally, sessions are spaced one to two weeks apart. This gives the body time to integrate each treatment while maintaining the continuity that makes the course effective.
Is it suitable during pregnancy?
Please let us know if you are pregnant when booking. We can adapt the treatment for certain stages of pregnancy, but some elements may not be appropriate. Your safety and comfort are always the priority.
What should I wear?
Loose, comfortable clothing is ideal for arriving and leaving. You will be appropriately draped throughout the treatment. Your therapist will guide you through everything.
